Early this morning, (like 3:00a.m.), I woke up hacking up a lung (or so it sounded that way). I downed some Mucinex and drifted back to sleep in a medicine-induced coma.
Being that today is my day off from work, I had plans to complete the WOD and I was not going to let feeling under-the-weather get in my way. In my mind, I NEEDED to complete today’s workout; however, my body was telling me otherwise. And I was ignoring it.
Although I did complete today’s WOD, afterwards, I felt 100% worse than I did prior to stepping foot into the gym. Because I listened to my mind, my body is now paying.
Better is better, a blog post from the awesome ladies at Girls Gone Strong, hits the nail on the head with over-training Obviously, my body cannot get better if I’m pushing it in overdrive while it’s trying to fight sickness. Just as well, I often feel that I get sick because I often do too much at once. Who’s with me on this one?!
Feeling better physically is part of feeling better mentally. Next time I really “don’t feel” like working out, I won’t. What about you? Have you ever over-trained?

Oh man! I have done this a few times and paid for it! Now I always try to listen to what my body needs, NOT what my mind is telling me I need to do. Get well soon!

Nope, but I’ve definitely under-trained…
I hate completely missing a workout though. Usually I just rearrange or switch them out i.e. yoga instead of speedwork last night because it was 4 degrees! Oh well. Also in response to your last post – I think yoga is making me a better runner anyway, so it’s probably a good thing.
